This book is a godsend to me. As an RN, it is important for me to have a clear understanding physiologically what is happening to my body and be able to identify reasons behind it. The book “Autoimmune” describes clear objective medical reasons why our bodies are unable to function metabolically causing our immune system’s inability to do its job. This book teaches you about the deficiencies in our bodies ability to breakdown proteins into amino acids and and foods we eat that are unable to breakdown into the vitamins and minerals we should be able to absorb with the food we eat. There are answers to why this happens and what we can do to help our bodies metabolically process what we need to help our immune system fight this disease.

I am excited to know there is something I CAN DO to help myself rather than depend on ‘treating the symptoms’ with pills. My hope is to understand the cause and to help myself in the cure of my disease that inhibits my daily functioning.

This book is a must if you have any autoimmune issue. This includes a whole host of diseases.
I have done studying for years always trying to find answers to my chronic disease.
Well, this is the book I will not ever give away.
It is concise, but not too complicated for a lay person.
I am reading this book very slowly so I can really “digest” it chapter by chapter.
I am high lighting and writing notes in it so I can use it to refer back to always.
    Highly recommend!

I have been suffering from both an Autoimmune Syndrome and an Inflammatory Syndrome for about 15yrs now and have read a ton of books on the subject. This book has been the only one I read that is really able to point out the specific causes of a person’s ailment. The author uses many different types of research (clinical, private research, patient testimonials, etc…) to back up her theories.

The first 65% of the book is a bit heavy on the medical jargon but you can tell she is trying her best to put things in laymen terms. She even uses basic flow charts trying to make it as reader friendly as possible. I didn’t have much trouble getting through it but I have a better that average health literacy level than many people. Please DO NOT let this dis-way you from getting the book. Every minute spent working on “The Cause” section will make understanding “The Cure” section a breeze and that is when things will really “Click” for you and give you an AH-HA! moment!

I read this book a while, got all excited about following the advice (which I feel is basially based on the ideas of Weston A. Price / Sally Fallon), and then fell off the wagon. But don’t feel dissuaded by my experience. See I have a bladder disorder called IC and some of the advice such as fermented foods are down right irritating to us, even though the cause of our disease may be autoimmune. Also, you have to have the pocket book for all organic foods, grass fed meat and raw dairy. And what if you have true allergies to gluten or dairy? That is not really addressed but is probably something you could try first BEFORE trying this diet.

I did make saurkraut, and water fruit kefir (a non-dairy fermented drink I don’t think she mentioned) and ate/drank a lot of it, but there were not even minor positive changes for my condition that gave me impetus to get even more deeper into this diet.

I think this is a worthwhile book to read and I think if you have certain autoimmune diseases (including the symptoms of low vitamin b-12, possibly anemia and low vit. D) you should implement this diet, see if it works, and THEN write a review as there are too many ” Just starting to read, I’m so excited” type reviews. If it works give it FIVE stars, and only then. If it doesn’t then rate it low, but PLEASE give the diet a chance.I think I would have put 4 stars if there had more information about the diet, but it was enough to get me figuring out what it was all about especially since I am alrady familiar with the Price diet. Compared to so many trashy diet/cure books based on almost nothing this is a gem. Sorry but I read the real soft covered book, not kindle.

I bought this book as I have had chronic health difficulties for over 20 years – diagnosed with fibromyalgia, hashimotos, arthritis and high blood pressure. I truly didn’t expect much but as anyone knows who has suffered with health problems for years, you continually find yourself searching for answers and a way to find relief. The book made a lot of sense to me and I decided to try the dietary protocol outlined in it. So far this has made the biggest impact for good on my health than anything else I have tried over the past 20 odd years. When I first read what I had to do, I felt overwhelmed but I decided to make a start with milk kefir first. I then went on to make the sauerkraut and now I activate seeds and nuts. I refuse to touch any processed food and eat organic everywhere I can. My pain has reduced and my energy has increased. I still have a way to go but with the results I have seen, I am committed to this way of life for the rest of my life. I recommend his book to everyone but it seems that most people seem to need to reach a point of desperation to be willing to make these changes. I would have loved to have been able to have this information years ago but I am so thankful that I finally found it in this book.

This book explains SO MUCH about the lack of good health and the many autoimmune diseases that are found in our society. We are not getting enough Vitamin B12—-but everyone who thinks the answer is just to add another B12 supplement MUST read this book! Annesse Brockley explains why our bodies are not getting B12 from our food—why we are missing the enzymes in our digestive system to process our vitamins and how to fix it. By eating the right foods, you can reverse and cure MANY health problems. Several of us who have read this book and followed her advice have found amazing relief from acid reflux and arthritis. You don’t need to take a plethora of supplements, you just need to eat REAL food. This book explains why our bodies are not functioning as they should, backs it up with documented research, and gives you recipes that work! This book truly will change your life.

  7. N. Arey

This book is packed with evidence and scientific research as well as personal experience on the cause and the cure for all auto immune diseases.
Drs. should read this book so they can really help people with autoimmune diseases, instead of just writing prescriptions for them.
This book explains everything including the nutritional aspect and how one can simply change what’s happening inside their body by eliminating certain foods, chemical pesticides and by adding certain foods, such as raw organic fermented sauerkraut’s that have enzymes to break down protein.
I’m so happy I found this book, it’s changing my life. I have Hashimoto’s and I have implemented most of their suggestions.
I’m working on my recovery and feeling better and better.

I have read the preliminary book, which was available as an e~book, and found it to be gripping, inspiring and invaluable! The author leads you on her own path to renewed health and then expounds on the many scientific proofs that are published, but until now, not compiled for easy comparison. To see all the published papers pointing to what Annesse Brockley learned in her own quest for health is to be convinced that this simple solution is worth the bit of effort to try! READ THIS BOOK. You will not feel it was a waste of time or money!

This book is a must for anyone suffering from an auto-immune illness. I think I could go as far as to call it potentially life changing. I used a few books together: the Body Ecology Diet by Donna Gates, this book and one called Wild Fermentation, to put together an eating and healing plan.
I make my own sourdough bread from wild yeast, kefir from raw milk and coconut kefir with water kefir grains, yoghurt etc etc. This book also has some delicious recipes at the back to begin a fermented foods journey. I made a delicious cucumber and red pepper sort of chutney, very simple and delicious and something that immediately began working on my and my family’s digestion.
I found the information collected fascinating, the truth behind our supermarket salmon, our ‘dead’ milk etc etc. A friend with a seriously threatening auto-immune illness has taken it away to read, while another has begun to make his own kefir with raw milk and says that he has has far more energy after just a few weeks of taking it.

So, I would really recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I am sure that the information within can help everyone to strengthen their immune system, be they old, young, extremely ill or at the beginning of a serious body imbalance.
I’m learning how to make fermented foods at home, because they are an important part in healing your digestive track. I also stopped buying meat at my local grocery store and began getting pasture-raised organic beef and pork from the same folks who own the dairy. Once you taste these healthy foods and see how much better you feel, you will have no desire to go back to your old way of eating!

Each week I find another example that reinforces the research and information in this book. I stopped by a local liquor store where the owner is knowledgable to ask about organic wine. During our conversation he mentioned that his two favorite beverages (wine and coffee) both come from crops heavily sprayed with pesticides. He gave me information on the organic/biodynamic wines that he carried in his store. He also mentioned that during a recent trip to Guatemala there was a lot in the news about a death and illnesses caused by a pesticide mishap with folks working in the coffee fields. I love coffee, but it always gave me a stomach ache. I had never considered the pesticides. I bought some organic coffee beans and it was no surprise that I didn’t get a stomach ache, plus it just tasted better.

I’ve also lost 10 pounds in the two months I’ve followed this diet. I feel better than ever! I’m no longer having digestive problems. I find that the foods I eat leave me full and satisfied. I’m not continually hungry for something that my body isn’t getting in the food I eat. I thought I ate well before, but realized most of what I ate was heavily processed, full of chemicals, and had little nutritional value. Don’t deprive yourself of the opportunity to live well and healthy. Read this book (several times) to learn what you need to know to successfully battle autoimmune diseases. It takes a little effort, but it is well wort

This is one of the most thought provoking books I’ve read in a long time. If you have fibromyalgia or any other autoimmune illness you must read this! And after you read it you must also make sure that your doctor reads. it also! The one thing that might deter some readers is that this book very reliant on seemingly endless research and references these medical studies throughout. Don’t let that deter you. The author takes the reader through each study and expertly takes the intimidating out of medical language and beautifully explains very complex findings so that a junior high student could understand. As a Registered nurse for 30 years and a Fibromyalgia sufferer, the information in this book has provided a new way of looking, my illness. I am now aware of all these studies done by the likes of The NIH, Johns Hopkins , Duke Med. School to name just a few. Many of the findings have groundbreaking information that autoimmune sufferers (AND their Doctors) should know. All the info compiled here provides the best and most current information available on autoimmune disease. It could be life changing for so many. Don’t wait until all of this filters down to the general public. It’s here now for your consideration.
